NAAB is proud to announce the achievement of recognition by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to excellence in accreditation. CHEA recognition affirms NAAB’s continued focus on aligning its practices with widely-recognized accreditation standards and advancing a rigorous, responsive, and forward-looking accreditation system.
At its meeting on May 4, 2026, the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) Board of Directors reviewed the recommendation of the CHEA Committee on Recognition regarding the Recognition application submitted by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). The Board of Directors accepted the Committee recommendation and recognized NAAB for the following recognized scope of accreditation:
The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredits professional architecture degree programs in the United States and internationally. To receive NAAB accreditation, programs must be offered by institutions accredited by an institutional accrediting agency, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. NAAB accredits programs at the baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral levels. (2026)
About CHEA Recognition
CHEA recognition of an accrediting organization is a rigorous process designed to assess and affirm the quality of U.S. institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations. CHEA is the only nongovernmental higher education organization in the United States that engages in and awards recognition to institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations. Although the U.S. Department of Education conducts governmental recognition reviews for accrediting organizations, CHEA acts independently of the federal government’s recognition activities. CHEA recognition focuses solely on academic quality assurance of institutions and programs.
