The Visiting Team Report
The Visiting Team Report (VTR) conveys the visiting team's assessment of the program's educational quality, as measured by the students' performance and the overall learning environment. It establishes the degree to which the program is as described in the APR, and includes documentation of:
- The program's noteworthy qualities with respect to the NAAB Conditions,
- The program's deficiencies with respect to the NAAB Conditions,
- Concerns about the program's future performance, and
- Comments that may be helpful in preparing for future accreditation visits.
The VTR serves multiple purposes. It is essential to the NAAB in making its accreditation decision, it may also serve to strengthen the program and its position within the institution, and it may inform current and prospective students about the nature and quality of the program. Because the VTR is such a powerful tool, it must be concise and presented in a consistent manner.
Evaluating the Accreditation Sequence
The program is encouraged to provide a formal evaluation of the accreditation sequence as soon as possible after the site visit to assist the NAAB in improving the performance of visiting teams and the benefits of the process to programs. A form is provided in appendix A-12, which will be compiled by the NAAB staff to provide feedback to team members and the NAAB directors.
Accreditation Decisions
In formulating its accreditation decisions, the NAAB takes into consideration the VTR, including the confidential recommendation from the visiting team, clarifications from the director who represented the NAAB on the site visit, and any additional relevant information from other sources if previously made available by the program.
Decisions on terms of accreditation are based on whether the program:
- Has a productive self-assessment process and is making reasonable progress toward achieving its mission, as measured by the benchmarks identified in its strategic plan;
- Is making reasonable progress toward eliminating the deficiencies identified during the previous site visit;
- Offers an overall learning environment that meets the NAAB Conditions for a professional degree program;
- Is producing graduates whose work demonstrates satisfaction of the Student Performance Criteria;
- Has a library that meets the NAAB Conditions for a professional degree program, and
- Has the resources to sustain an adequate level of achievement.
If the program is adjudged not to be in compliance with these interrelated factors, it shall not receive a six-year term of accreditation.
